Yesterday we visited this school on the outskirts of Kemerovo.  A government minister had contacted a member of our church group, requesting assistance for the school.  We contacted the Russia humanitarian missionaries in Moscow and were encouraged to visit the school, take pictures and learn about the goals and needs of the school.  This is a boarding school and orphanage with 140 students.  The vocational program, particularly the sewing classes, needs new equipment.  This project is similar to one we just had approved in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan.  Projects supporting education and self reliance are the best!
The school was founded in 1926, and the buildings are the originals.

This is the sewing teacher in her classroom.  The sewing machines are the oldest I have seen in current use.  In spite of the outdated equipment, 95% of the students are able to find employment after finishing school.

We were able to see the small school museum where items from the past used in the school are on display.

School uniforms shown by Sergei, Vice Director at the school.

Brother Vladimir Filippov, who helped make arrangements and then visited the school with us.

  1. Is it all boys or girls or a mix? Will you be helping them get new sewing machines? Looks like a great project.

    1. It is a mix of boys and girls. We will not actually be developing or submitting this project. The Russia humanitarian missionaries will do that. We just happened to be in Kemerovo and were able to do the initial visit and gather information. It is a good project, supporting education and self reliance. The school is asking for sewing machines including some overlock machines, and we feel reasonably sure that the Russian humanitarian couple will proceed with this project.
